Watch ad:tech NY 2009 Day Two from Livemercial Booth #1600
ad:tech NY 2009 Day 2 has started off slower, sleepier than day one. Much of the sluggish start can be attributed to the New York Yankees winning their 27th World Series last night (I picked a great night to visit Times Square for the first time). The rivers of human traffic through the exhibit hall aisles of day one are softer streams, but the day is beginning to pick up now.
Over at the livemercial booth, conversations are becoming lively. Many people are intrigued by the name “Livemercial†and stop by to see what we do.
Catch the Ad:Tech NY day two action from the perspective of Livemercial booth #1600 LIVE on streaming video from Ustream.

Known as the world’s largest civil aviation tradeshow, the NBAA connects buyers and sellers of the business aviation community and helps exhibitors market their products to potential buyers.
The featured LiveJet, currently on the market to sell, is a commercial commuter with a gulf-stream size cabin, yet has an operating cost of a small to midsize jet.
“From a pilot’s perspective it has all the latest and greatest avionics: a full glass cockpit, a handful of memory items and more redundancy than typical corporate aircraft,†said Mathis. “Made for commercial operation, it’s used to high cycle times and low down times and is able to go in and out of many airports that other corporate jets cannot, because it is never weight limited by runway length or temperature.â€
The NBAA Convention will host representatives from every segment of the business aviation industry, from 82 countries around the world; in addition to offering two days of education sessions tailored to light business airplane (LBA) owners, pilots and entrepreneurs who may be considering the value an airplane can provide to their business

A 2009 ERA D2C “Thank You”
After a smooth flight back from Las Vegas in the livemercial jet, including a short, pleasant stopover up in the Rocky Mountains, the livemercial team made it back safely into the Porter County (IN) airport just before 9pm CST.
Weary but happy, a well-deserved night of rest soon followed.
As Jennifer Crawford put it:
“The 2009 ERA D2C show was a stirring experience not only because of the event’s presentation but also the passion of the inventors. We’re lucky enough to have these events and be in these fortunate positions because of the inventors: their dedication, their stories, their risks. These inventors who sacrifice much of themselves for their ideas are the reason I get to stand here today.
“I thank them.â€
Livemercial would also like to thank everyone for making our five day stay in Las Vegas absolutely wonderful. Those we’d like to thank include but are not limited:to
- Electronic Retailers Association
- The City of Las Vegas, NV
- Paris Hotel staff
- The Big Biz Show team: Russ, Sully, and Maureen
- Original Productions “PitchMen!†team: Chris, Thom, David, and the rest of the crew…
- Anthony Sullivan
- “Billy Three” – Billy Mays, III
- Cathy Mitchell
- Jennifer Crawford
- Old friends revisited
- New friends made
And especially, we thank the inventors who came out in droves to show us their passion. We thank you!
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the privilege of meeting Disco Santa before we left.
Next up for Livemercial
Friday is the Mayor’s Ball in the city of Valparaiso. Then after that we do some planning, some traveling, and some hard work before we head out to San Diego for the Direct Marketing Association convention on October 17th-22nd.

2009 ERA Day Two Wrap Up
Livemercial’s Hamlin Wins ERA Award
Before we begin our 2009 ERA Wrap Up, a well-deserved congratulations goes out to livemercial President of Production, Lynn Hamlin, for winning the 2009 ERA award for “Best Long Form of the Year.” Lynn won the award for her Executive Producer work on the “Kodak Easy Share Camera.”
(Jennifer Crawford wraps up Livemercial’s 2009 ERA “Pitch It to the Pros.” You’ll never guess who she runs in to. And, “no,” it wasn’t scripted)
The Final Day of the 2009 ERA D2C Convention became a bustle of activity starting with the networking lunch and running all the way through to the Gala Awards ceremony in the Versailles Ballroom at the Paris Hotel.
And livemercial was fortunate enough to have the majority of the action by their booth.
If you happened to float by livemercial booth #501 during the 2 o-clock hour, you saw CBS Radio’s The Big Biz Show interview livemercial CEO Johnny Mathis, legendary Pitchmen Anthony Sullivan, and the inventor of Cold Fire.
“The Inventor of Cold Fire?”
After the inventor of Cold Fire sprayed his forearm with the product, he took a well-lit blowtorch and ran the torch up and down his wrist. (yes, footage coming soon).
But Wait, There’s MORE!
Mr. Mathis got in on the Cold Fire action. And then Anthony Sullivan wasn’t about to get outdone so he endured the same treatment. And to finish it up, Billy Mays, III, had a run with the Cold Fire as well.
Nope, nobody got burned.
And before The Big Biz Show’s Sully had a chance to relax he was given the opportunity to interview one of his heroes:Â pitchmen legend Cathy Mitchell. Come to find out they both graduated from the same high school in San Diego.
The ERA Gala Awards at the Versailles Ballroom
CEO Johnny Mathis accompanied Anthony Sullivan, Billy Mays, III, and company as they made their way down the red carpet, stopping to answer media questions along the way.
After a wonderful, brisk dinner we were happy to hear that Lynn Hamlin, livemercial President of Production, won the ERA Best Long Form of the Year award for her work as Executive Producer on “Kodak Easy Share Camera.”
Special congratulations also goes out to Anthony Sullivan and Billy Mays as they shared the “Best Male Presenter” award for their work on Dual Saw.
ERA Gala Awards Finale for the Ages
And a respectful nod goes to Billy Mays, III. “Billy 3″ accepted the ERA lifetime achievement award for his father and gave a stirring speech before an attentive ERA crowd.
Livemercial ERA Wrap-Up post soon to follow…

Happy 51st Birthday, Billy Mays
Livemercial would like to take this moment to Billy Mays-shout, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY,†up to the sky in honor of the late, great infomercial king. Today would have been his 51st birthday and though our friend passed on not quite a month ago, his presence still entwines into much of what we do. Not a day goes by when we do not think of him.
Still thinking of you, buddy.
Below are some of our favorite videos Billy Mays so graciously recorded with us. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have.
The classic, “Billy Mays at The Office.”
Billy and Anthony Sullivan giving a live Dual Saw presentation at 2009 ERA Miami. This also marked Billy’s debut into live streaming video.
And then the very next day, Billy Mays did his second-ever live streaming video performance when he pitched ZorbEEZ to the visitors.
Courtesy of the Jeff and Jer show in San Diego, CA, Billy pitches livemercial’s “Pitch It to the Pros” contest while being egged on by Anthony Sullivan.
And in the last video we were fortunate to shoot, Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan announce the 2009 livemercial “Pitch It to the Pros” Response Expo winner: Treasure Chest Pets by Lisa Lloyd.
Happy 14th Birthday, Cody Mathis
While we’re at it, jovial “Happy Birthday,†well-wishes goes out to Cody Mathis, son of livemercial CEO Johnny Mathis, Jr. Cody got to spend time with us today in the livemercial office, meet the crew, and look on as the staff shot video footage with the 50 Companies to Watch film crew for the upcoming 2009 Indiana “50 Companies to Watch,†awards banquet next month in Indianapolis.
Still Want to Pitch It to the Pros?
So maybe San Diego was a bit far for you to travel to pitch your ideas to Billy Mays, Anthony Sullivan and the executive team at livemercial. Or perhaps you were in the area and couldn’t make you way over to the Bayfront Hilton. If this is the case, here is a taste of what you missed out on:
Still want to Pitch It to the Pros? Not to worry! livemercial’s “Pitch It to the Pros” has continued. All you have to do is video tape yourself pitching your product or idea and then upload it to livemercial’s site at this link. And if your video is choosen, you will hear from our team of experts.
Don’t be afraid to be original, but please be tasteful. And, don’t worry if your video isn’t edited by a post-production facility. Webcam pitches will do just fine.
And “Good Luck” to everyone who participates!
PlateTopper wins Livemercial “Best Housewares Invention†Award!

Billy Mays and Livemercial CMO Patty Cox presented the first “Best Housewares Invention†Award to Michael Tseng, for his PlateTopper. The PlateTopper was judged by a panel Direct Response Marketing experts, including Anthony Sullivan, as the best new invention at the Home + Housewares Show.
The PlateTopper is a food-storage container that features a clear cover and silicone ring that creates an airtight seal on any plate. It is dishwasher and microwave safe, stackable, and offers a affordable, eco-friendly alternative to traditional aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
Michael Tseng, 25, created the concept as a Mechanical Engineering project at Princeton University in 2005.
“Michael’s PlateTopper is perfect for Direct Response Marketing,†says Patty Cox, Chief Marketing Officer for Livemercial. “It’s a brilliantly simple solution to an everyday problem. The minute you see it, you wonder why no one thought of the PlateTopper before. The second questions is, ‘How soon can buy one?’â€
Livemercial is offering Michael a package of three online sales and marketing tools to help bring the PlateTopper to market: a Sell it Yourself online marketing platform, a Social Response Pack with branded social media channels, and placement on AsSeenonTVNetwork.com.
